Question:
I noticed that when i'm coming to a stop I have to come to a COMPLETE stop before i can put it in first gear. All the rest of my gears (besides reverse of course) I can shift into whenever i want as long as the clutch is pushed down. But if the car is moving at all, the gears will grind if i try to put it in first. Is this normal? I dont remember if it was always like that or not. Thanks

your not sopost to put the car into first girl if the car is moving, thats why it wont let you. if you are still moving just put it into second gear and you might go a little slow at first but its better then going into first...my car is the same way, but if you force it into first the car will shake really badyou need to hold the clutch all the way down and not let it budge even a little.
I have tried screwdrivers dosent work .. and a tire iron ..?
Yes its normal, only for first gear.Your sencro gear is still turning so it will grind until your engine rpm's slow way down.
Hoe do you remove rear brake discs on mercedes sprinter?
If your gears are grinding when you try to shift into a lower gear, it usually (if not always) means that you're going much faster than that gear is meant to go. So if you're going 60 mph, you wouldn't want to try to shift down to second gear.So in your case, it means that your first gear is very low. I have an automatic (which can also be shifted), and to get into my first gear I need to be going no faster than 10 mph.
Sounds like either your slave cylinder or pilot bearing are going out. I'm going to say the slave cylinder. Have you noticed anything leaking from the area of your transmission? Check the reservoir for clutch fluid under your hood. Here is a link to a site that explains manual transmissions. The crappy thing is that sometimes these problems are hard to diagnose without actually being there to see the problem or taking the component
Can a 1976 Vauxhall Cavalier 1600 run on unleaded petrol? If not what can i do?
normal.if moving at all-2nd is ok.I locked my only set of car keys in the trunk of my 1994 lumina, how do i open the trunk?
Yes, this is normal. How offen do I need to change my oil on a new Volvo?
The transmission is synchronized. The shifter can move safely into another gear, depending on the rpm's of the motor. In other words, if you are doing 20mph in 1st gear, you cannot just shift immediately into reverse, you will "grind" the gears. This protects the transmission and the clutch. You have to be in a certain rpm range to change to lower gears, or in the case of reverse, you have to be stopped and the rpm's go back to idle speed.
Is there a web site i can go to that will tell me estimates for getting work done on my jeep?
It may be normal for your car depending on the model, or It could mean the brass syncro rings for 1st are worn out in your transmission. It can last for a long time (or forever) like that if you remember not to grind it.Any idea whats wrong with my oldsmobile alero?
Try putting it into second at interstate speeds and the same thing will happen. Syncros in the transmission are not able to spin the lower gears fast enough to mesh at higher speeds. Which is a good thing b/c if you put it into first gear while going 70 mph your tranny would probably explode lol. Most of these guys are right. It is not wise to drop your car into first gear when you are moving too fast. You will blow your engine.
How much it would cost for 1997 Nissan altima to replace the started and all the shock in 4 sides.?
Even people that do engine braking rarely get all the way down to first gear before stopping, and if they do, they are probably heading down a steep hill and know what they are doing.
Also, 4x4ers will downshift into first on a regular basis in high or low range because they negotiate all kinds of crazy obstacles where they need extra torque.
You should be able to notice what speed you attain in first before you shift to second. This speed will be the same for accelerating again after slowing down. So if you get up to say 20 MPH in first before you shift, when you slow down, you should not try to down shift into first if you are above say 15 MPH. It is ok to just downshift to a lower gear but not into first gear if you are still rolling.
