What is the possible extent of damage done to my car by having too much oil added?

Question:
I just checked my oil and the level is slightly above (1 inch) full on the dipstick. I just had it changed about 1 week ago and have driven 450 miles. Is this a big deal? Should I return to the place that did the oil change and have them drain some oil? There have been no warning lights or anything.

pug 106 battery?

by having to much oil in the engine the oil pressure rises to levels that the oil seals can no longer handle and the chances of having them leak or blow increase. it can cause the need to have the motor rebuilt. i would get another oil change done at a trusted shop.

Ford Escort 1.6 1998. Temp.guage in the red after 100mile run?

On some engines when the oil is too full the crank has too much contact with the oil in the pan as it spins around. Could cause too much disturbance and starve the pump of oil or put air in the system. Also if it gets to be milky you could have other problems like coolant leaking into the base making the oil level seem high.

Does your car shake when you need a weight wheel?

with only 450 miles hopefully no damage has been done,
like the other answers this will damage the engine seals and more it is more dangerous to run a engine a quart over full than a quart low. , how ever it is over full most likely because of them over filling , but it could be other problems also could be water leakign into your oil, which could be a blown head gasket , does the oil look milky to any extent? if is water or fuel leaking into your engine oil you can easily notice this water will have the oil sorta milky looking, you will smell the fuel plus it will be really really thin will almost feel like water with no lubrication at all, check these things also just be safe but i would bet it is over full many places do this often they want allow the engine oil to completley run down and they just keep adding then when everyhting is settled and all you have a engine over full, well best of luck with this and be careful a 20$ oilhange can cost a engine over haul quick.. hope i was of some help..

is the synthetic oil better than regular i switched to wallmart synthetic last year?

yes, overfilling can cause the oil to become foamy, then the oil that is moved by the crank, and oil pump, will not lubricate well. Take back and tell them you just checked it and its a little over, they will take some out, and might just give you a free oil change..

Take it back, the bottom of the engine will go out,and you need paperwork for the initial oil change and more paperwork, noting that they have drained some oil out.I guarantee that within 5k miles your bottom end will start knocking. They have ruined your car.

what would be draining the battery on a 1990dodge spirit?

I assume that that you did not check the oil right after they changed it?
When ever you have your oil changed, check the oil level before you drive away. It's not unheard of for someone to drop the old oil and forget to add the new oil! This is something that can be hard to prove after you leave the shop.
I don't know your car make and engine, so it could be that one inch doesn't mean that much. It could mean a half quart or it could mean a whole quart over.
.
Most people think that if the manual says 4 1/2 they can add 5 quarts, don't do it! And...I've seen people misread the manual and mistake liter as the same as quart.
.
I would have it checked very carefully. Sometimes a high oil level is caused by antifreeze or fuel leaking into the crankcase. You could smell it when you check the level, does it smell like gas or antifreeze?
There should be no serious damage done however.
No, your main seal isn't going to blow because there is no oil under pressure pushing against the seal.
Too much oil will not increase the oil pressure, the oil pan only holds the reserve oil.
Some excess oil could wind up inside the air cleaner or be sucked into the intake thru the crankcase ventilator line.
This would result in white smoke from your exhaust, but since you didn't mention it, it probally hasn't happened.
Oil can damage a cataylic converter, but since you don't see white smoke, it's didn't get sucked into the intake.
Believe it or not, Too much oil can cause friction with the spinning crankshaft and push your gas milage down.
,
Go back to the shop and have them re-change the oil.
Talk to the manager, don't yell, just tell them the facts and ask them what they will do for you. I'm betting they will double check and rechange the oil for free.

how will you remove a silicone sealant from plastic bedliner?

Having too much oil is almost worse than having NO OIL at all, and you really shouldn't drive it till you get this cleared up.

What causes the windows on my G35 to become splotchy when the weather warms up?

Good luck trying to get one of those Quick Change places to own up to a mistake. You may be better off just drianing it out your self and refilling it with the proper amount.....the reason I say "refilling" is once you unscrew the drain plug you are going to have a heck of a time trying to replace it while oil is pouring out of the oil pan.

Where does vacuum hose connect to from the 4 wheel drive?

You'll have to figure out a proper way to measure it (4 or 5 quarts, what ever your engine takes) and refill it.
