Question:
I have a '97 Civic with 129,000 miles on it. My Speedometer suddenly jumps to 20 mph when I turn the key to on, but haven't ignited the engine. It doesn't work properly but half of the time. The needle bounces around, then starts working properly, then starts bouncing again. My odometer stopped working, too. I replaced the gauge (it includes both speed and odo). This cured the malfunctioning odometer, but the speedo is still not working. So, I got a new Vehicle Speed Sensor, put it in, and the needle STILL jumps to twenty and bounces around, then works properly, then starts acting goofy again. This is driving me insane! Please help?

I need help with my homeschool mechanic stuff...?
there is no cable going to the back of the speedometer...it is all electronic..have a mechanic hook up tp the obd2 port and drive the vehicle. when it malfunctions he will be able to see what is wrong.
Oh c'mon it's not like you pay attention to the speed limit, do you?
Help about my car breaks, are they bad?
I had a Mazda with 103,000 on it and the speedo quit working. I just judged the speed by the tach as it wasn't worth investing in repairs. I got rid of it at 130,000. Doing without a speedo isn't that tough.
most likely the cable running from the back of the gauge is malfunctioning...
