Do any auto partts store give core value on alternators, even if you dont buy a replacement one first?

Question:
The alternator on my brother's car died so I replaced it with an almost-new spare I had (we each have cars with the same series motor). If I were to take it to an auto parts store like Autozone or O'Reily, would they pay me the core value for it?

Absolutely not. You must buy one and pay the core charge and then get credit when you return the old one. The reason = Two bolts and off it comes. Steal one every 2 minutes and get core charge payment = see - there is too much of a chance for theft and fraud so it is a one for one exchange.

At the car parts store we work at, to my knowledge we wouldn't buy it from you. What corporate policy is I'm not sure though.
