1989 chevy silverado 1500 series 350 motor 2wd?

It is idling up and down and then when you go to drive it, it dies. We changed the fuel filter, it ran ok for about 5 minutes then we went to drive it and it died again. Any suggestions on where to go next would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like your MAP(manifold absolute pressure) sensor is bad.This sensor is what determines if your engine is under 'load" conditions.It will tell the computer to add more fuel to the engine when its under load conditions.Probably runs fine at idle but as soon as you put it in gear(load condition) it dies.This sensor is NOT cheap.About $70-$100.

--update--first make sure you dont have any vacuum leaks.This sensor does run off vacuum from the motor!!Here is a pic on what the MAP sensor probably looks like---
