Could be so many things wrong with it, go to a mechanic and get it diagnosed if you can't find any symptoms. As for keeping ice off the inside, maybe cover your car at night as best you can so no humidity gets inside.
I am buying a new top for my convertible, can I use my old window or do I have to buy a new one?
There is a product by RAIN-X available at the parts stores called "No-Fog" or "Fog-Gone". Works pretty well.Years ago, when trucks weren't what they are now, defrosters weren't all that effective, if they worked at all.
We used to use BULL DURUM tobacco in the little fabric pouch and wipe the windshield with that every 20 - 30 minutes. Worked very well.
It will work well for you too, but I have this caveat for you…
get the heater -defroster repaired. If there is an accident, and the fact of POSSIBLE diminished visual access is noted, even if you aren't at fault, you can be cited, and a slimy lawyer can make a pretty good case that it wouldn't have happened if you could have seen where you were going. Bad day in court for you and your insurance company.
