points do the same thing as the electronic ignition does except the electronic ignition usually doesn't wear out and I think 1974 is when most auto makers did away with points. The reason they did away with points is when the points burned down it would change your timing on the engine where the electronic ignition doesn't burn down and your timing stays the same all the time and it gives off a lot hotter spark to the plugs.How to get air out of a cooling system of a 95 Eldorado North Star?
