Does it really matter where I get my gas from?

Question:
I understand that it is important to get the correct octane level your vehicle was built for. I am NOT asking if it matters what kind of gas I get, I am asking if it matters WHERE I get my gas from.

How much does a car paint job cost?

My auto mechanics teacher says that it does not matter where you get it from, all that matters is that you get the correct octane level. Different gas stations add some unimportant formula which seperates them from other gas stations, but makes them no different. However, I have a friend who is a mechanic, and he says that he can tell when a person gets their gas from the cheap station, because their engines are usually very dirty.

Need help with my 240SX?

Especially with fuel injected vehicles, your car will be happier if the fuel system is clean and dry, and it is more likely to stay that way with quality fuel. More than just the price or promise of the retailer, a newer place (newer storage tanks below ground = less sediment) that sells a lot of gas (it does attract moisture over time) is likely to provide better results.

all the gasses are the same everywhere no matter if you buy the cheapest price or the most expensive, 87 octane is 87 octane, the only difference is some stations add more cleaner to their gas but if you put a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in your tank every time you change your oil you will be just fine if you use the 1.50 gal. gas when across the street it's selling for 2.00 gal.
