Dash light problem in '97 Nissan Altima?
Car engines will idle faster on a cold start due to a higher compression ratio (which is another reason why people have been telling u all ur life to let the car warm up before driving away. It not only reduces stress on engine parts that have temporarily become more brittle due to usually bitter outside temperatures, but also saves gas). its perfectly normal, as long as its not rediculously high like anymore than 3000rpm while warming up. once it has been brought up to temperature(when the temp needle is halfway between the Cold(C) and the Hot(H)), idle should no longer be that high as the compression ratio is reduced and a leaner mixture is provided. Ideal ranges for normal operational idle rpm's are anywhere between 700-1100, depending on the car. some actually may be higher or lower, but that is very unlikely. hope that eases ur worries.how long does it take to change a cylinder head gasket on a BMW 535i?
