Question:
last weeek our focus died on the motorway, initially it was thought that it was the timing belt tensioner, which has been fixed, but now the mechanic is saying that there is no compression in the engine. Does anyone know what causes this and how it can be fixed. Also, an idea of how much it would cost would be appreciated.

I have a Volvo with 20 valve turbo engine. I hear a knocking?
Do all the cylinders have low compression. If so it may have jumped time.I used a batter charger to jump start my car and now i have no spark, why?
Your valves are bent. What can be wrong with my car?
They replaced the TIMING BELT TENSIONER or the SERPENTINE BELT TENSIONER.. Sounds to me like timing belt let go..............The cam, which is driven by the timing belt, opens the valves......If the valves do not open the air cannot get in, hence, no compression..........Big trouble !! At a guess I'd say the belt is approximately $70.00, and four hours labor $ 360.00 .............Don't want to step on your mechanics toes....Don't know his labor rate, etc., etc..I have a leak in my 1994 Mercury Topaz!?
I'm afraid your motor has been well and truly dinged. Your timing belt (cam belt) has slipped, if not broken. Your valves, at the very least, are shot/damaged, hence the lack of compression. You are looking at ~ >£700.00 to fix. Sorry. If the tentioner became to loose there is a good chance that the timming slipped and you now have bent valves , this will cause the engine to lose compresion , there is no easy way to say this it will cost around £900 depending how bad the damage is, but i would have a second opion from a good quality garage first, just because a tentioner has slipped doesnt always mean that the timming has slipped , Good luck
sounds like bent valves, around 500 should see it right again
