Ford OBD Code1260?

Question:
I have a Ford 98 Explorer it has stopped working and my snap on scanner is telling me that code 1260 'Theft detected, disabled engine' is showing on the scanner. I have tried to clear the code but no prevail.

Prise rise for Vauxhall parts on 03/01/07? Is this true or or is someone making me look a fool?


I am getting spark and i have hooked the fuel pump up hot so the throttle body is getting fuel but it still won't start.

What would be wrong with a Ford Windstar with......?


I also tried disconnecting the batter for 24 hours with hopes that the code went away this did no work either.

How do you get pine pitch (sap) off a new car without messing the paint up?

P1260 is a PATS system DTC. Does the theft light flash fast? If so, it means you are attempting to start the vehicle with a key that the PATS transceiver does not recognize. You will have to bring it to the dealership to either have a new key programmed, or the PATS system diagnosed further.

hooking the fuel pump to hot does not mean gas is getting to the throttlebody. the computer control the fuel injectors on and off. take the masterkey of the truck and insert into the driver door. lock and unlock the vehicle. once it recognize the right key, vehicle will start. if it does not recognize the key, you need a scan tool to see if the key code match the computer.

P1260 Theft detected means that the PATS system has seen a key turn the ignition to the on position but did not receive a signal from the key, the module, or a bad PCM basically.

Rakel is right.. see if the Theft light is blinking fast when you try to start it. If it is, the PATS system is not receiving the key code.

Basically in the system, there is a small ring around the key cylinder, it transmits a pulse to the key which responds back and the ring broadcasts it over wires to the PATS module that in turn reports to the PCM.

Usually when I see a p1260 with a known programmed key (to the car), usually it's either the key went bad (the chip breaking internally) or the ring (called a transceiver) breaking the coils inside and not being able to report to the module.

Other than bringing it to the Ford dealer for proper diag, you can try a new ring... basically pull covers off the steering column, undo screw and connector and remove.. reverse to replace.

BTW Lexusry is wrong on cycling in the door. I've heard it works with some imports, but the ring is the only thing that reads the key on the Ford... the door cylinder is the same one basically used for years (no electrics hooked to the key cylinder I mean)
