Question:
bought Lt1 94 trans am month ago. car ran great, the people i bought it from said it was due for plugs and wires so my boyfriend started changing them he got the left four changed and couldn't do the other side till the next day. I could tell a slight difference it seemed to run better. he replaced the other four and now my car idles rough (almost sounds louder) and when at a standstill with foot on the brake it wants to take off by itself (rpm's 2to3000) not everytime but most. After it warms up, it cuts out when I accelerate, I had it checked to see if it through any codes it through code 32, egr, he replaced it, checked other possibilities that has to due w/egr (so he says) he now says that #5 spark plug is not getting fire and came to the conclusion the distributer cap.....does anyone know how to test to see if the distributer cap is bad?? I just need to hear other views.
thanx

If you take a spray bottle and add a water/ammonia mix and spray it all over all the wires and cap, if there is a problem with any of it you will find out right away. The car will run very bad if there is a problem. If so, replace the cap, rotor and wires.i need to know how do i tell wheither or not my timing belt or my fuel pump is gone out on my car?
I'd be willing to bet you got a couple of wires on the other side cross wired. The way to check the cap is to take it off and look under a good light for cracks. Check the firing order and make sure you are in the right spots. Remember that the order is 1,3,5,7 on one side and 2.4.6.8 on the other, perhaps not what you're used to if you've been playing with Fords.1999 grand prix washer mister not workin?
He may be a great boyfriend, but now it's time for a mechanic.Just because auto zone say's it has a EGR code, that may not be the cause of the problem. Code readers only give codes they do not tell you what set the code. It has to be properly diagnosed.
Sounds like the firing order may be messed up now. Have it checked by a professional it will be cheaper than buying parts and guessing.
