Perhaps you have a faulty fuel guage. Best add some petrol/diesel before you call a mechanic unless you are a member of a recovery service. It is always best to join AA or RAC , or other service.

Souds like the engine stopped running and the electrics went off at the same time. If the only idea that you have to fix it is to put up a question on the site I would you suggest you bury your car with full honours. If as I suspect you have anopther idea why not take it (the idea that is) round to your friendly neighbourhood car mechanic and let him do his worst.

it my be the fuel pump fuse which sometimes doubles as the fuel gauge fuse, i suggest checking your fuses if you are sure there is fuel in it, if fuses are ok then it sound like a fuel problem i.e none left! or none working fuel pump.

Sound like you are out of fuel. If the gauge went fom 1/2 to 0 very quickly it sounds like you have a gauge/ sender unit fault.
First. Look for an obvious leak under the car. Then put a gallon of fuel in the tank. Check again for leaks. Try and start the engine.
If the engine starts, confirm the sender fault and replace. If not?
Could be lots of other stuff.

What's wrong with my car?

First one question for you. Does the fuel gauge register zero when the car is completely off? If it does then I suspect that this something electrical. You didn't give any real specifics about any noises the car could have been making nor if the accessories (radio, headlights etc. )stayed on when the car died. Please explain precisely what happened.

Hi there Helen, sorry to hear of your death hope you were able to over come the devastation this may have caused !, if i'd been at the scene i would have stop't being a gent and check't all the fuses my mother had a Nissan sunny 1.4 and although the inside was to me very basic it was a fantastic work house, id say the fault with your Serena is Electrical the fuses should be the first port of call i would say that may solve it, take some replacments
if it's not been recovered and your partner or a friend if it's in a volatile place !! i may have thought it a fual block but then you would have still had the fual gauge, good luck and regards Ray
