What are some possible things that would set off the check engine light. None of the gaguages on the insterment panel are near the red. I just put oil in. Coolent levels look fine....

Could be anything, usually a snsor, like oxygen sensor, egr sensor and tempature sensor. Go to your local auto store and they will read your computer and tell you what it is.

OK, if you take the advise of people that tell you to have it checked at a parts store like auto zone by a parts sales person not an auto technician this is what you will get. A code reader that may give you a code for oxygen sensor. Do you spend money on that sensor or the 10 other things that will cause that code. My point is the code they give you is not always what is causing the problem a simple vacuum leak can cause 10 different codes. It will be a lot cheaper to have it diagnosed by a professional auto technician than guessed at by a parts sales person that will love to sell you parts all day long. These parts stores survive on the people that think they have diagnostic skills with a simple $50.00 code reader.
