Passlock I - Boo!?

I have a 1997olds underachieva. Me and my dad have spent a combined total of 1900 dollars trying to get the security light to stop coming on and killing the engine, do GM techs know anything about their own cars ? It's not like I have that kind of money, just credit cards.
