Well now that you have freaked out half of the auto people on here..... I hope you have not started the car or it will be too late.Drain it, fill it up with the right stuff you should be good. The guy above who said something about draining it a couple times with the cheap stuff isn't a bad idea. Especially considering a few bottles of the cheap stuff and some of the good stuff isn't going to cost you nearly as much as the cost of a new trans.
When driving at 5mph, why does my car wobble slowly?
I just hope you haven't started it already, I'm hoping since you said you only filled it up half way you haven't. Bet you'll never do it again though!
Drain it and refill with Trans Fluid

Manifold leak on Ford Explorer how to fix?
Transmission fluid and oil are very different. Call a BMW dealer and see what he recommends. I suspect the choice will be if you drive it a few blocks to a garage or have it towed, but the transmission fluid will have to be drained and the filters replaced.how much do sending units for a 1998 buick lesabre run? and...?

why would the emergency brake light stay on, after I take it off?
I just asked my husband who is a motor mechanic and he is horrified at what has happened. If it is an auto don't drive at all it you will wreck it, transmission oil and motor oil are not compatible. He gave a lengthy explanation but the bottom line is 'don't drive it' drain all the oil and replace with transmission oil. What is the total psi for lug nuts on a Plymouth caravan?
Drain it, fill up with the cheapest stuff you can find, run it for maybe 10 miles, drain it and fill again with cheap stuff, drive it 20 miles, then drain and fill with good stuff. That's what i'd do.why is my corsa sluggish in low gear after being stuck in traffic?
You got to remember that motor oil is made to hydrosize under preasure, on the other hand transmission fluid is designed to expand so by all means your gonna need to change all of the tranny fluid and make sure you put the right kind in there. other than taking that precaution you should be fine afterwards. How to hotwire a car -- not to steal!!?
Jake is completely right. Drain it do not start it until you have replaced it with the proper fluid. Or it will be ruined completely.Follow Jake's advice and you should be good.
what do you mean by half a bottle?a litle bit wont hurt but if it's half a litre you should drain it through the cooler hoses not the pan, draining the pan will only get some of it out.either that or just put it in for an automatic service, the drive wont hurt it.
obviously the morons giving the thumbs down wouldn't know an automatic transmission from a steering wheel.cockheads.
Not that big a deal ,if you haven't driven it yet.Drain it after its drained pour 1qt of fresh trans fluid let drain ,replace the drain plug and top off to the correct level . Don't forget the engine has to be running when checking fluid levels.
