Where's the best place to get my brakes checked?

Question:
I need to get my brakes checked and I'm wondering where would be the best place. Should I try a place like Midas or the car dealership? Where does everyone normally go for a brake checkup?

how much does a chevy alcomeno engine coast?

Going to any shop can be risky regardless of the name on the sign.
Ask friends and family for recommendations. Auto parts stores frequently recommend shops too.
Nearly any shop will check your brakes as well as repair them.
If you have no connections where you live, get a few estimates and ask to be shown what is what on your car at each place. The honest shops will gladly do this. If they say their insurance forbids it or they just don't or won't do that...RUN!
Other clues are:
1. How many cars are in the lot for repairs. Too many can be bad as your car might have to wait.
2. Friends hanging around a shop can be bad news.
3. Overall shop cleanliness counts too!
If you have certain concerns about your brakes like they make noise when...they fade or whatever post it here. I have seen a lot of good answers and have cured some brake problems here myself. If you are at all mechanical and have a few basic tools brake pads are relatively simple to change. We can help you here or get a manual from a parts store or look at one in the library. (It is legal to photo copy out of books for personal use NOT related to making money!)

Anyone used Xzilon exterior and interior sealant? Is it true that if you use xzilon you dont have to detail?

unless you have a very unusual car, i would stay away from the dealerships. they charge about 2 to 3 times what other reputable repair shops charge. midas is fine or if there is a place near you that specializes in brakes.

Still having starting problems freelander diesel?

I've had some VERY bad experiences at Midas. Larger does NOT mean better. Often there will be a busy independant repair shop in your area or a small two or three shop chain. These are often the best. Look at the cars on their lot waiting for repair. If they are old beaters, go elsewhere. It usually means cheap work for crap cars. If they are better looking cars, chances are good that the mecahnics are better and do good honest work. Most people with better quality cars have used the same mechanics for years. DON'T SKIMP ON BRAKES. I've seen cheap brake jobs cause accidents. Spend a little extra and do it right.
