Is it a closed system ? Make sure the radiator cap and expansion tank caps aren't leaking. Check for upper and lower radiator hose collapse or leaks. Check your heater hoses and make sure the heater coil doesn't leak. (you would generally smell anti freeze inside the vehicle) Make sure the radiator has good flow and isn't plugged up! also, make sure the fan is working properly especially if it is an electric fan. Outside of those issues you may have a leaking head gasket or intake manifold!
I wouldn't put much emphasis on Barry S answer! First off it should not go to hot and secondly you should always keep an eye on your gauge! Some of these back yard mechanics and their intelligent answers!

My car specifically indicates Mobile One synthetic oil. Can I substitute?

sounds like air in the cooling system. wait for the van to cool completely, take the radiator cap off, then turn the van on and turn the heater to full blast. let the air come out and top off with fresh coolant. they may also be a bleeder valve on the thermostat housing. good luck.

How much cost to fix car harness wiring?

It is normal for the temperature gauge to go up as your coolant heats up and then down as the cooling fan kicks in and for that sequence of events to repeat itself>
Is your vehicle actually overheating? If not try just not looking at the gauge.

Can low a/c refrigerant cause the compressor to not engage or start?

It could be a faulty coolant temp. sensor (located where your upper rad hose connects to intake) Or it could be that your radiator is full of junk a gets plugged alot. try a cooling system flush, then sensors... they are kinda pricey

Plz help. mechanical thing.?

With the gauge going back and forth "secondly" I wonder if you have a wire disconnected or loose on the temperature sender. Something that got bumped when you replaced the thermostat maybe? Could also be the gage is faulty. Did you put the thermostat in correctly, not wrong end up...this will lead to overheating. Or you need to make sure the cooling system is full of coolant and doesn't have an air bubble trapped in the cooling system.

Temperature sending unit or a broken wire to it.
