Car dies @ stop lights!?

Question:
I have a 1966 Cadillac Eldorado with a 1971 Cadillac 472 engine and trans, Edelbrock Performer carb 750 and manifold. At idle the rpms are @850, manifold vacuum is 17psi, and timing is at 8 degrees, it dies @ stoplights. What could be the cause?, transmission, carb, or engine?

Question on straight piping?

Try setting the idle RPMs higher until the problem gets worse. There's a set screw adjustment on the carburetor. Also make sure the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid is not hanging up and stalling the engine. You should be able to disconnect its control wire at the transmission to determine that. The manifold vacuum is a little low, so maybe there's a vacuum leak in the power brake booster, vacuum advance diaphram or other vacuum tap.

The transmission filter can cause a car to run poorly and even die. Other than that I would focuse on the carb check the choke spring and see if it needs to be replaced. You can also check all vacumes and make sure they are all in the right place and connected. no leaks. good luck have fun.
