Not likely If the sensor goes out it just goes to open loop and turns on the check engine light.

Your answer doesn't lie with the ECT. A no start could be a number of things, but a temp sensor only contols when the fan(s) engage and the needle moves. 85% of the sensors on a car doesn't cause a failed start.
