what kind of vehicle? does the engine clatter or have any valve noise in the few seconds that it does run? does it have an oil pressure gauge or just a light?A bad oil pressure switch may not allow the vehicle to start (oil pressure present to allow ignition) howeverI have never found one vehicle that shuts off the engine due to lack of oil pressure.
How to check the air intake when accelerating from 0 on a vauxhall corsa?
yesMy 95 Honda Civic makes this squeaking noise when I back up?
The Oil pressure switch (sending unit) won't affect oil pressore - IT only reads the pressure - Some engines won't start if there is NO oil pressure ! I would install a manual Guage b 4 i assume there is no oil pressure .On some cars, low signal from oil sending unit (aka oil pressure switch) will cause the computer to shut the engine down. ACTUAL low pressure will cause that condition as well as a malfunctioning switch. They use mechanical pressure gages to by-pass the existing switch, and to verify if pressure is low.
If pressure is indeed low, it may be caused by several items such as:
worn oil pump, oil pump pressure relief valve stuck open, worn lower end bearings.
When should I change my timing belt on my 2001 Ford Focus ZX3?
Bobweb is correct. Low oil pressure will disable the fuel pump relay and not let the engine start. It is a safety feature to ensure that you don't run an engine out of oil.More Questions & Answers ...
