Engine displacement: Comes in either Ltr. or Cc.That means Cubic Liters or Cubic Inch.
1.2 or 1.4 is just the total displacement of that cars combustion chamber of that engine. The bigger the number, the higher the fuel consumption and more power.

Tata has introduced the 1.2 engine mainly to take benefit of the Excise Duty cuts offered by the Govt. on cars smaller in length than 4m & under 1,200cc for Petrol engines. This results in the car being cheaper than the 1.4 Xeta. Also the Fuel Efficieny does improve a bit.

I would recommend you test drive both cars & see what you like. The 1.2 can be underpowered at times for a heavy car like the Indica. But TD it & see if it suits your purpose.

a car engine has cylinders.these cylinders have a capacity which is measured in litres.an engine with greater capacity delivers a greater power.when the capacity is greater,more fuel is needed and therefore this influences the mielage.
