I have a 98 Toyota Carolla and lately my car is missing and dosen't want to go when i pull out. It is also jerking around when i am stopped. I thought it might be my spark plugs becuase it did this last year before i had them changed, but I changed them and its still doing it. My check engine light has been on for a few weeks now and when i pull out it will flash until i get running at about 40 mph and then go back to staying on. Somone said it could be my o2 sensor...any thoughts?

Take it over to autozone or some place like it and they will scan it for free with an obd 2 scan tool. This will pinpoint the problem and you can get the part on the spot ;)There's so many things. Just take it in and have them read your codes. Then you will know what you need to replace.

Your car has any number of sensors, computer, and mechanical situations that could cause your symptoms. You will have to take it to a reputable mechanic (NOT Autozone, an auto parts store). The Oxygen sensor might be at fault, or partially, or not at all. The car will need a thorough examination. Gearhead is nuts. Just having your codes "read" may not solve anything. Many different problems can cause codes to be recorded on the car's computer. A bad spark plug may set off a malfunctioning O2 sensor code, for instance.

I'm no master mechanic, but i have been working in an exhaust shop for over ten years now. when the check engine light flashes, that means that you have a problem that is at a catalyst damaging level. if you look in your Manuel, or any vehicle Manuel made after 1996, they will almost all tell you the same thing. you need to either speed up, or slow down till the light stops flashing. and immediately get the problem diagnosed, and repaired, otherwise it will cost you more in the end. as for the one who acused gearhead of being nuts, there is a reason you are retired and you might want to check your facts before you go slamming some one, especially if you were Ase certified.More Questions & Answers ...
