Not the seals..the rings. the oil rings around the pistons...ya see my Talon THAT I JUST BOUGHT TODAY...:( ..is smoking. and they say it might be the..rings.

Yes, is quite indepth, tearing apart the whole engine, and such. Let alone trying to get that timing belt back in the proper place. Wait till you have experience.

OK , you just bought it , we know already , your motor is toast and you got ripped off, buck up buttercup , you can't rebuild it at home even though the Haynes manuals still show you how . getting a rebuilt put in is your best bet , phone around locally , prices vary too much for us to help with that

First check your oil level. Some cars will smoke bad if they have too much oil, or extremely dirty oil... Black! Smoking can be caused by a stuck choke and bad egr valve, also bad or worn valve guides and of course worn rings. But rings would be the last culprit, I have seen engines with 300K miles on them and they dont less than half a quart of oil between oil changes, and they dont smoke. I would check many things before doing a ring job.
