the car is 10 (maybe 11) years old...has over 100k miles. car all of a sudden has been running really bad for about a month now. check engine light has been on ever since it started acting up. what can the problem be? thanks for the help so far from everyone who responded to my previous questions! does anyone think a tune-up would be the key solution into finding out what the problem might be? please help!

The check engine light signifies that a trouble code has been set in the computer control system. If I had to guess, I would say it is a bad O2 sensor, but a scan will tell you for sure!!

Yes tune up and air filter, fuel filter, 100K is time to take it to the Doctor to make it last to 200K, about 400 bucks right now will make it a sound vehicle....NOT THE DEALER!!! 100000 miles is not too many these days If you have not had a tune up its time find a good shop that will flush the upper intake and change the plugs and wires air filter fuel filter If you have a bad sensor the check engine light will come on that is what it is for. If you do the above you will find that your car can go a lot longerwhat does a breather do for an intake?

Goto any auto store and have your codes read. If your car hasnt had a tuneup in a year get one, spark plugs, wires, oil and oil filter and air filter. 100K miles dosent mean anything. My dad has an intrepid with 300K and it runs like a champ, it is all in how well you maintain your vehicle.
