I just bought an old Volvo wagon. What should I do to keep it running?

Question:
I just bought a 1990 Volvo 740GL Wagon with about 160K miles. It's running great and the auto transmission is shifting good. The only thing I've noticed is it vibrates when idleing -- I'm not sure if this is normal or if it's excessive. I should say I know almost nothing about cars and less about older cars. I only bought this because I'm on a very tight budget and I need something to get to work with.

Whats a G-Lader Charger?

I think the car is pretty good though for the price, and I'm wondering what I should do to try to keep it as long as possible. Specifically maybe what kind of oil I should use and where I should get it changed, and what kind-of regular maintenence I should have done on it.

Gday,
You dont need to much to keep these cars goin the timing belt is the main thing if you dont want a blow engine when it snaps.
My 89 740 doesnt like tune ups or services when i get a service something will usually go wrong with it the next week.
But if you leave it a lone it runs forever.
Basic things do yourself like
oil change
spark plugs
air filter
And chnage the petrol filter this gets clogged and decreases power dramatically.
You can do all these things your self only takes about 2 hours
i do it about twice a year.
cheers

Am I being overcharged for brake work?

Make sure the timing belt has been replaced recently. They tend to go out every 70,000 miles. In most cars, if they go out while you're driving, it will cause extensive damage to the engine. This is one repair that should definitely be done preempitvely. (Costs $300 - 400. Vs $1000 per piston on a damaged engine.)

If i leave the car unuuse for like half year what kind of stuff shall i do?

You may also want to get the O2 sensors checked/replaced. These tell the car how much gas to use when running. Having broken O2 sensors turns your car into a gas guzzler. Pep Boys can run a diagnostic check on your engine for under $20.

What mirrors should I put on my 72 Chevy Blazer 4x4.?

hi ,i own a repair shop, and with the older Volvo,s they were easier to maintain actually than the newer ones are,a good oil for that car would be a good Mobil one synthetic oil,it last three times as long as any conventional oil does, its expensive, about 5 bucks a quart, but its worth that and more really, you need to also keep all the small things repaired on this car as good as possible, small things can lead to bigger things if not repaired,,those are good cars ,other wise it wouldn't still be around, every time it gets an oil change have it checked and make sure you have it greased well also if you,ll just repair things as they go bad ,this car should last you a long time, they usually last around 3-400 thousand miles,i have customers who own them, and they have lots of miles on them, and there all still running real good just take care of it ,and use common sense, and you,ll do good with this one ,i hope this helps, good luck with it.

Do anyone know if there is a on line manual for a 95 VW jetta III?

I'm sorry, I had one and it was a money pit. So noisy the stereo was a waste of money, broke down about every 8 weeks, including once at a business meeting, and also right in front of the hospital in winter when I had to pick up my mother in law. The seats were too short or something, and the sunroof was screwed up. Spent thousands.
