The older XR3i with the K Jetronic fuel injection system has a cold start injector, but yours being a Zetec has a coolant temperature sensor which is possibly located on the back of the inlet manifold if it has two sensors, otherwise it will be on the coolant elbow.

your engine does not have one. the slight over-fuel (choke effect) is accomplished by the engine temperature sensor telling your fuel management that the engine is cold therefore increasing the open time of your fuel injectors. check as above the output resistance at both hot and cold. if you don't know how to do it or the results don't make sence get it to an injection specialist.More Questions & Answers ...
