WE HAVE TRIED CHANGING THE THERMOSTAT. I HAVE A 1.9 DIESEL RENAULT CLIO. I JUST DONT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO TRY. PLEASE HELP AS MY KIDS ARE FREEZING WHEN WE GO OUT IN THE CAR.

as a quick solution, you can buy car heaters that plug into the ciggy lighter...as regards the main problem, it may pay to check that the fuses are ok, l am not sure if you are saying the fans are not blowing at all..if they are not working in terms of not blowing then its most likely a fuse, the fuse holder is usually under the steering wheel and fuses are in a little compartment with a plan that tells you which does what, the fuses are blade fuses, and have a plastic end with two connecting metal blades they pull out towards you and have a thin strip of metal in the plastic end that if seperated shows the fuse has gone.After thats checked and ok then l would look at the advice given already on a heater valve, and last of all it could be a blocked matrix.....the heater in a car is best described as a mini radiator, heated by the water circulating round the engine, then an electric fan blows the warm air from the matrix over you tootsies they vcan get bolcked and then need replacing, this can be expensive in terms of garage time.

If the engine is coming up to operating temperatur then it sounds like the valve that opens to let the hot water into the car is stuck shut.
Open the hood with the engine warmed up. Look between the engine and the firewall (the metal wall below the windshield that separates the passenger compartment from the engine compartment)
Look for 2 smallish water hoses, should be around 1 inch in diameter running from the engine to the inside of the car. on one of the hoses should be a valve with a control cable attached. Have someone move the temperature control from hot to cold to hot and you watch to see if the valve is moving.
If the valve moves you need to replace it... chances are the control cable broke or came loose... you can then manually move it to allow the hot water into the heater..

I agree with shovel kicker... but first open the radiator and make shure your coolant level is full, then when your car is warmed up check the heater valve, it could be run by a cable or small vaccum hose. If the vaccum hose came off, put it back on, be carefull they are brittle and will snap easily, the same for a cable, if it came off put it back on, it could be frozen stuck, like rusted, spray some wd-40 on it to loosen it up. see if there is a bleeder on top of the elbow were you put the thermostat. if so open it up slowly while running to let the air out. then your heater should start working. be careful to stay away from moving parts. col lent should squirt out.i you don't you may have it have the system purged. air removedif the temp gauge is reading normal if you do not have agauge only a temp light test the water temp by holding the top hose and the bottem if both are hot the car is running at the correct temp then locate the heater tap which should no tbe hard it will have a water hose going in one side and out the other remove the to hose and join them together with hose joiner they turn heater fan on with the motor running you shoud have hot air blowing into the cabin

You never mentioned if the fan blower is working inside your car, check fuses.Make sure there is enough water in the radiator and no air locks, feel all the rubber pipes to see if they all get hot! Give them all a good 'hand-pump' squeeze, and see if it dislodges/moves anything about. How do you know the new thermostat is working ?? Try taking it back as faulty!
Also if you feel all the carpets inside the car, to check for any water which could have leaked out of the heater matrix (internal radiator) under the dashboard! The heat should come through if there is no leaks at all or air pockets in the system, and the heater fan-blows.
Run the engine to see how long it takes the engine's cooling fan to cut in! Get it really hot, it might help especially if you do a lot of small journeys!
Pull the bottom hose off and re-fill the system with new water and anti freeze.

Do you have a smell of antifreeze in the car and a puddle of unexplained origin? If so, you blew out the heater core and you will not have any heat until you get it fixed. You could also have a hole in the radiator. First check header tank or radiator is topped up to the correct level .(NOT HOT), Has the car got an air bleed for the water,(It looks like a nurled screw) and is userly on a water hose , some Renualts have some dont , if it has wait untill engine is cool unscrew nurled screw but do not take out completly it has a bleed hole in it, when it is released then run engine with rad cap on untill water stars rushing out scew nurled screw up tight then top up rad, replace cap . if all that doesnt work then you need a new heator matrix displacment unit , your old one is blocked. not a job for an ammiture im afraid, if its the fan not working check fusesHeater core is leaking in a 1990 Ford Taurus.?
Watch to see if your engine is heating up properly. Firstly top the radiator up to the brim with water, then drive the car round for 5 minutes to heat the engine up. It should be warn by then and showing on the temp gauge. Physics dictate if your engine is running normally under these circumstances then you will have heat. If you still haven't it is something to do with the switches on the dashboard. Call a mobile mechanic out that specialises in electronics and he will probably identify the fault in 5 minutes and fix it within an hour. You would have a break in the selector telling the car to switch to warm air which would be causing it in tis case.What makes a car shut down while driving?
You don't need to worry about blockages or leaks. The heater matrix is a part of the coolant system circuit. If it were leaking or blocked this would all come direct from your engine resulting in you cooking your engine or running out of water (which would probably end up all over your feet).
