If you’re not an A/C tech, why are you bothering in the first place? What can you do to fix this problem? Releasing refrigerant into the atmosphere is illegal, it must be reclaimed. Did you go to a shop that doesn't touch Freon systems, but told you that they can fill it, if it's empty? Just have it serviced by a professional.Searching for a mecanic or that kind of person?
You have R-134 so it won't wreck the planet too bad if you just vent it. The harder part is when you fill it back up. You have to leave a vacuum on it for a while to get every last bit of air and water out before you put the refrigerant in.It sounds like your compressor bearings are going.
