Question:
Car is a '97 Oldmobile LSS
98 accord 4cyl vtec AT... getting p0420 code...whats the cause?
I just got a new battery and alternater 1 month ago. I get power when I put in the key but just get a clicking sound. There was no indication of problems recently. There is a rare occasion about once a month or less when it won't start. Once my security light came on. I just waited a little bit and when I went back to my car it started but I'm not sure if that is going to work this time.
I just check under my hood and there is some yellowish substance on my battery.

why is a 1991 chevy lumina van not getting no fire to fuel pump?
Sorry to have to tell you this but when it come to intermittent no start conditions you best solution is to bring it to a reputable repair facility to have it diagnosed. For your problem there can be many possibilities (eg. fuel, electrical, ignition, or charging). It would be more cost effective for you to have a professional diagnose the problem rather then buying and replacing parts that may not fix your problem. How do I centre my steering wheel?
if there is little or no sound when you start the car then id say yes it is the starter. if there is a loud sound like normal when starting i suggest its the fuel pumpMy car smokes under the hood. Usually when the engine is hot. What should I do?
first i would check the cap and rotor before u replace the starter it might not be making a full circuit and can cause that but more then likely a starterWhat wears or tears your vehicles CV boot / axle?
the cliking sound that uare hearing is the kog in your stare has worn out and the reason why it only works some times is because the kogs are hooking in sometimes and turnig over the moter. So your best bet is to get a new starter and then you will not have a hook. You need to bring your battery back because it was a faulty one if there is yellow stuff on the top that is acid .. so the best of luck with your car. P.S this is what your problem is 100%i have to hold key in place while driving...do i need new key and tumbler or ignition switch?
check the solenoid. The problem is in the starter motor and it is the solenoid contacts which are faulty, the clicking sound is the solenoid engaging but the starter does not turn over due to the dirty contacts not allowing the battery voltage to reach the starter motor windings, to fix, repair/replace starter motor. the yellowish substance on your battery is corrosion and best removed by pouring boiling water onto it, then remove terminals and clean inside surfaces by scraping and after that coat terminals with Vaseline.
