Question:
When is the best time to check your transmission fluid? I heard that it should be when the engine is still hot, is this true?? (And yes, I do know that if the fluid is still red then it's good but if it's getting black then it's time for new stuff.)
My car starts but i have to keep my foot on the gas pedal to keep it running?? help..?
I may just take it somewhere & have them do it for me cause I'm thinking of going to get a flush anyways. I've had my car for 3-4 years & don't know when the previous owners did anything.or IF they have at all. It had about 60,000ish miles when I bought it & I have only put about 25,000 miles on the car since then.

How do i fix the belt on a washer machine?
It should be checked hot and with the engine running. As far as the colour, yes it should be red, and there should be no bubbles on the dipstick and it shouldnt smell bad. If youre not sure take it to a mechanic. You should have a transmission service done every 50 000 miles. (they change transmission oil and filter)
I asked this question earlier but didnt add my yr or make, Is it my O2 sensor or cat converter?
yea..every 60000 miles you should have the fluid flushed anyway..if its red...good.brown...change it and black..pray everything is still ok in the transmission..also some car have special trans fluid..make sure you take it to the dealer or someone that know alot bout trans that you can trust. You can check the fluid cold or hot, it only changes where the level should be on the dip stick...
Don't just do one of those "so called" flush jobs, unless it includes draining the pan, removing it and replacing the filter too. You should get a new gasket and filter with the new fluid. Make sure...
you are right. you have to check the transmission when its hot and with the vehicle running. some cars require you to put it in neutral so find out before you check it as not to over fill it. its also a good idea to have it flushed if you haven't done so yet. i flush my transmission every year just as part of a regular maintenance. just like a tune-up.
What is causing hard shifting in 84 Camaro Z28 with automatic transmission?
Yes, it should be hot. If it is a honda, get it hot and shut it off before checking it, as I have heard a few stories of the dipstick getting munched up by 1st gear if it doesnt slide in just right. If is a nissan or Toyota, get it hot, and it can be checked running or shutoff. Ford and GM need to be checked hot and running. Why doesn't my car want to reverse uphill?
Definetly get it flushed, but take it to a real repair shop, not a jiffy lube. Have them replace the filter if the car has one as well.

When above 40 my 1999 lincoln continental message center stays on drivers door ajar?
Check your manual.i know that my car and my daughters say to check it differently.
One says hot, one doesnt say hot or cold
one says check in neutral the other says check it in park.
so you need to read your manual and you will find your answer.
My 1996 camaro is overheating.?
Hi, it is best to check the fluid at operating temperature.. Be sure to read that small writing on the dipstick, because some rear wheel drives actually say to check it while in neutral, instead of park. (with the engine running, of course) I generally suggest a transmission service every 50,000 miles... depending on how the vehicle is operated.. (towing, severe driving conditions..etc..) Hope this helps.. TerryMore Questions & Answers ...
