How much will it cost and how much time is involved in fixing a blown head gasket on a 1989 Mazda 626, 4 door, standard transmission? I asked this question 8 hours ago and got two completely different answers. Help!

Well not knowing what state or city you live in makes a big difference.
First you need to find a good mechanic.
Ask you family & friends or coworkers.
Then get a cost estimate.
It will likely take two days toa week depending on if they have the parts. Which they won't as the car is so old. They will likely have to order them.
It's a dreadful mess to cleam up. It's happened to me twice.
I had a 1984 Mazda GLC, the headgasket blew and it cost me about $1200 to fix. I live in CA and it was probably about 1990-92 that I had the work done.
The car was never right after it blew the first time. The overheating can cause the manifold to warp. If you go ahead and replace the headgasket it will be good for another year or two but it will blow again.
I'd check into a rebuilt engine to replace the one you have.
The price for each will probably be close to the same.
