I ask because I one time used some throttle cleaner on an old car (94 Ford Escort) and it took the engine a few times to finally fire up.

Don't do it, don't buy the service at the oil change joint, don't put anything but gas in your fuel tank. Some of the newer injectors can be damaged by harsh cleaners. With todays fuels, and the sealed fuel systems on todays cars. I highly doubt you have any varnish or whatever you think is in there. It's just a gimmik to get you to spend more money on something you will never be able to see a difference from. Come on it's an 05! Unless it sat out behind the barn for a year and the fuel rail dried up, I'm sure there's nothing in there. If it isn't running right, it's probably something else.get the fuel intector cleaners and follow the recommendations on it. You can buy it from an auto shop place.

The best way to clean fuel injectors, is to take it to a local shop that has an injector cleaner setup. This setup will run nothing but cleaner through the injector rail to the injectors under high pressure. The stuff you add to your gas tank will help, but not like this setup. If you have a clogged injector, or one that is stuck, this setup will unclog or "pop" the injector. This takes some time for the injector cleaning. Couple of hours. They have to disable the fuel system to the injectors, so they can run the cleaner. They add an additive to the gas tank, so make sure it's full when you take it. And they have to re-engage the fuel system, in order to clean the throttle body with another type of cleaner. This is the best way to clean the injectors. After the cleaning you can help by when you fill the tank, add an additive to run through the system to help keep it clean. But every so often you need to take it in for the injector service. I saw most of my customers once a year for the cleaning. I'd give name brands, but not all shops use the same type of chemicals. Just make sure it is a pressurized cleaning and you should be ok. The gas at the pump is already cleaning your injectors as you drive. Unless you are using really crappy fuel from a bad dealer...The cleaning effects of good quality fuel works best when running the car at high rpms. Drive the car at a low gear and keep the revs up at least 3000rpms for at least 30secs. If you do this at least 2x a day. You should get those injectors clean in a couple of days. More or less depending how dirty the injectors were.
