Question:
I have a 94' Subaru Legacy AWD wagon. Every time it rains, I am getting water in the tank. This is regardless of how much gas is in the tank. Even when the tank is mostly full, I will get water in it. I'll add the dry gas stuff and it is fine until it rains again. This issue has gotten progressively worse now to the point that I keep gas treatment in my car and fill up my tank all the time to keep the tank full. I checked the gas cap, and it is holding a good seal. How could water be getting in? I don't think condensation is the issue.
Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Im not an expert about water in the gas tank but it happened to me before and you have to let it be used up, but remember the next time to click the cap like 4 times, otherwise water seeps in. check the rubber hoses going from the filler neck to the tankSometimes it's good to syphon to clear the tubes. It gets the motor running?
You must have a leak in the in pipe, the filler tube. Have a shop take a look. Somewhere a seal has broken and is allowing water to leak into the tank.Should I get the battery in my car replaced?
apperently you have a small hole somewhere in your tank. take it to your mechanic and have him look it over. he might just replace your tank altogether if he can't visibly see the hole. is it before or after you drive it. that could tell the mechanic around where this leak is.i would drain all the gas out u can get a fogger and let the tank fill with smoke and wait for the smoke to come out the hole if u find it u can get seal that u mix together and it make a steal u just put it on the hole
not sure where the gas tank is on your car.most wagons its under the rear floor right at the back.

so if you get rain inside the car , at the rear, on top of the tank, the water can seep into the top of the tank...

There are two things now. I would suspect for one reason or another the filler hose is loose or has cracks in it. What you do is run the tank low so that way it will not be that heavy to handle when you take it off. Off run it low enough then get a gas can with those manual siphon pumps and take the rest out.
How can I instal a new style radio into an old 79 F-150?
Anyway, you will only take the straps off. Have a GOOD flashlight to check the top to check for any suspected rust spots if you have a metal tank. But I suspect between the gas tank and the outer cap to replace the hose. Also maybe the bottom clamp came lost. I dont know. But take the hose off and the outside part where you put the gas in and check for holes of any sort. Good luck.
But get on line and go to ebay and you can buy the repair manual NOT the owners manual and save you some money
http://search.ebay.com/legacy-manual_w0q...
But I would suggest the service manual which comes on CDs. That way you can print out what you only need and you can peruse it when you want, and never "misplace" the manual like I do. lol Have fun.
Could the problem be that you are getting moisture in the distributor cap? Plug wires breaking down?

If you had a leak in the fuel line or tank, it seems you would smell the gas when it is dry.

Does a fire truck suck up water when there is a flood?
The possibility is that you have a sending unit on the top of your tank which is call your fuel pump. It has a seal that may be worn and that could be your problem. Next time you fill your vehicle see if you have any drips of gas under your vehicleHow do you put a rearview mirror back on?
Car won't just start because fuel has to burn to perform combustion. With water, fuel won't burn and release exhaust which a car has to.More Questions & Answers ...
