pickup loses fuel prime when the motor is turned off. Why?

Answers:

Changing wheels from 3 stud to 4 or 5 stud?

If it truely is losing prime, then something is leaking. If it is leaking air "IN", then it should be leaking diesel "OUT" when pressurized. I would look for something else.
