if you're in canada you can take your battery into any Canadian Tire store and they will check your battery for free and tell you if it's shot or ok. If it's ok then your problem is likely the alternator. The battery is used for power to get the car started and run electronics when the car isn't running but once the car is going the alternator produces the power that runs everything electically. So if the lights are flickering adn the battery light comes on while the car is running or idling it's most likely a faulty alternator. The engine turning over drives a belt that turns the alternator producing the power - at idle everthing turns slower and produces less power - if you're alternator is a hurtin' unit that's when it'll start to show. If you're idling and it starts to flicker - rev the engine a bit and see if it goes out.replacement brake master cylinder or upgrade for triumph dolomite sprint(tandem)?

Go to your local auto zone if you have one and ask them to test your alternator for you, they can do this for free. You need a new battery yesterday. Take a long hard look at the cables, and ends that attach to the battery as well as the engine & body. Sometimes when a battery goes bad it has an internal short. One like this will die, and you will have to walk, or be towed. You want to avoid having your vehicle jumped if you can. The arcing of the jumper cables, and the hard drain on the system can cause other problems such as loosing the memory in your computer and radio back up systems. If it is on the low side this means it is on its last leg, and can die at any given time. The computer systems must maintain at least 12 volts to operate properly. When the battery light flickers, this indicates the system is below acceptable levels. A bad battery will over work the alternator trying to charge it back to normal, and if you run things like the lights and heater, you are asking more of the battery than it can keep up with at times, and at idle speed it just may decide to stop running, and there you will be with a vehicle that won't start, and if you have no lights because of this, you can get ran over in the road and be killed. I have seen this happen to people! Where I live a TV news caster was on her way to work, and the car stalled on the freeway. Along came a big rig, and she was killed while trying to get out of the car. If she had put a new battery in her vehicle, she would still be with us. She was such a pretty young woman, and had her whole life ahead of her. The whole area was shocked due to this tragic event, but people don't usually think that things like this would happen to them. Do yourself a big favor, and get a new battery, and have the alternator checked out to.
