Question:
Hi I'm a mechanic and have got a Renault 16V with a broken timing belt but the tool for setting the cams and crank doesn't lock the crank. The valves on number one cylinder are going to be open with the piston at TDC "Not a good Idea" just wondered if anyone could tell me where the pistons should be when the timing tool is fittet
Thanks
Craig

i had a renault scenic that i did timing belt on 16v. i made my own tool, on the passenger side of engine on camshaft housing the-rs 2 rubber bungs, remove, a flat plate goes in slots of cams, i used a bit of angle iron fitted lovely, then i used a dial gauge on no1 piston to find tdc. it worked a treat.I'm not saying do this but it saved me buying the tool. if ur a competent mechanic u should have no proplems.
