If the smoke has a sweet smell it could be coolant. If not it could be transmission fluid. You mean it's sucking in smoke? Never heard of that ...

I would guess it needs valve guide seals. Sounds like oil is leaking past the seals and getting into the cylinders.ive just had a new engine fitted in my car and a blueish white smoke is coming out off the exhaust?
its burning oil, it will be the valve stem oil seals very common on astras could be the rings also but do valve oil seals first cheap to domy washer won't aggitate,or spin.i just replaced the door contactor?
Hi there i would start off with a compression test and see what you get the readings should be roughly the same then i would get a garage to perform a cylinder leakage test. This is where compressed air is forced in to the cylinder to simulate compression and you can then tell where the engine is leakingWhite smoke means your car is burning water or antifreeze. Check your engine oil to see if its contaminated with antifreeze. Dip it or check the oil filler cap. If it looks like a chocolate milkshake colour then there is antifreeze in your engine oil. If this is the problem don't start your car again...it could cause serious problems. There may be a problem with your head gasket. This can prove expensive.
Blue smoke means your car is burning oil. This is common in older cars with high mileage. If its burning oil...the oil has got into the cylinder through a dodgy seal, gasket or O-ring and will need replaced.
If your car is also mis-firing too much oil has got into the cylinder and the spark plug will need cleaned or replaced. Not really expensive to clean or replace.
Hope this helps you!
Where the PCV valve is located?
Hello Tony, it seems to that the oil rings have gone on the pistons letting oil get into the combusten chamber and being burnt ,exiting through the exhaust ,keep a check on how much oil she uses and watch out for uncle bill it`s a possible nick. try and find a reputable one man garage and ask how much to do it for cash, i would £100.00 onwards.John.BoyIf its white smoke then it is obviosly heating water from somewere . just because there is no contaminate in the oil does not necerserily mean the head gasket has not blown , if there is a break between the water jacket and the cylinder . water will not get into the sump but will feed direct into the cylinder causing white smoke , try puting a temperary solution to see if it cures the proplem for a while , buy some K SEAL perminent coolent leak
if that cures the proplem then you know what to do. PS there is not such animal as a perminent cure for a blown head gasket , but it will work for a while
