Question:
I have an automotive question/problem that concerns my Brother's car. He recently bought a 1990 Mazda 323 for an extra vehicle to provide cheap transportation. The problem is that the front brakes/hubs heat up mainly on the left side. He has had the pads, calipers, and rotors replaced along with the front bearings. It still heats up, but not as bad. The local mechanic now thinks that one of the hoses from the caliper might be collasping and not letting the caliper release. Also, it does not pull, one way or the other when you hit the brakes. Any ideas/solutions would be greatly appreciated as this has become somewhat of an automotive frustration/puzzler.
Answers:
I would replace the brake lines going to the caliper and see if that cures the problem. If the wheel bearings are new and have been repacked with grease, the caliper, pads and the rest of the hub assembly are new, the problem is narrowed down greatly.
How long does a new car battery generally last?
I can tell you just for the sake of argument that I have installed a new caliper and had it be a bad one, some of those sit on the shelf for a while and collect condensation, rusting the piston inside the caliper causing it to stick.

A sticky caliper or collapsing brake hose is the best answer. I used to have a 1991 Ford Tempo that did this, and I replaced the brake hose and it was fine ever since.
