I have a 92 ford ranger pickup w/2.3L engine. Problem is it wont start using the starter motor anymore, but...

Question:
it will start when pushed. When I try starting the motor does turn and I have had the starter checked. it is a dis ignition and there is something in the starting chain that my sorry Hanynes manual just doens't go into detail about, that is keeping the ignition spark from starting. It run ok once it is started. Any sugestions on how to trouble shoot this problem.

Car doesn't have power on takeoff and up to about 65 mph, any suggestion?

Thanks,

Does anyone have an idea whats wrong with my car.?

Where did you have the starter tested at? Because most of these auto parts stores like AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts will test them, but their testing equipment sucks. I still think its in your starter, maybe its just starting to go bad, not quite turinging fast enough. I think your problem is in your starter, and I would suggest rerplacing it.

What's a good way to make my carb. run better on my car?

Maybe your key tumbler is worn out. That would keep the coil wire getting to contact the other 2 wires when you turn the key. I would try to hot wire the car bypassing the ignition and see if that works.

The problem is either the starter is not turning the engine fast enough or the ignition key cylinder is bad. If you feel the starter is turning the engine fast enough, replace the ignition cylinder and you should be fine. You could try hot wiring, but it would be about as easy to change cylinder.

In my opinion, your problem most likely lay in a bad starter solenoid or wiring there.
