Question:
My car is a 1990 Geo Prizm it's got about 130,000 miles or so.. I think I have thrown rod.. thats what everyone keeps telling me. And I have a way I can get it fixed for relatively cheap. The only problem is I have to get it to the place which roughly 100 miles away from where I currently live. And the sound of it for one scares me half to death and two I am scared of what could really happen while I am driving the car to OKC. Any help would be most appreciated!

Used ECU for Honda Civic 1991?
not that far - if its thrown (which you gave no other possiblity) you need to not start it at all. it will just cause more problems - big problems. if you have to get it somewhere tow it.A pushrod, not very far, a connecting rod, not at all.
Not 100 miles. you would be lucky to get 10 miles. Is it worth the savings to get it towed?
How can you tell if your Catalytic Converter has gone bad?
Don't think it will make it that far, I have seen them go surprisingly far but 100 miles is pushing it, could be dangerous as well, the oil splashing could catch fire, engine could seize up causing loss of control. Maby check into the cost of renting a tow dolly and make it known that you need assistance, I know if I saw a general ad for someone needing a car hauled and was going that way I wouldn't think twice about hooking on to it.If there is no oil leaking and the car still runs then it's probably not a thrown rod...it may have spun a bearing, or it might be a piston wrist pin or possibly just a rocker arm. Have someone pull off one plug wire at a time to see if the sound goes away a little with one of the cylinders disabled. If it does go away a little and if the gar will still run with the wire removed then this would be the safest way to drive it there if you had to. If the sound doesn't go away at all then the problem is in the top end...rocker arm or valve. If this is the case you can just drive it to where you got to go, keep the revs down and take your time.
That car is not worth the tow charge. Buy yourself a 3 year old certified Toyota or BMW and you will go much further.
Does anyone out there know whether a Pirelli P4 is a good tyre?
Don't risk driving it.
how bad is a wee oil leek on my car is it easy and cheap to fix?
If it is a push rod, you might make it going real slow. If it is the rod that connects the piston to the crankshaft you have a really good chance of being cited for littering and obstructing traffic flow.

Where is the starter on my 1995 ford escort 1.9liter?
You did not throw a rod.If you did you would not be moving it anywhere except by pushing or tow truck.
But still 100 miles on a bad rod bearing.
That's pushing it.
At thirty miles per hour and a crap load of STP in the engine.
You might make it.
And besides you only have to worry when you hear the tune from Deliverance and your radio is turned off.
(And come on people a push rod on a Geo Piizum)

You won't make it. I wouldn't drive it at all.how to calculate compression ratio of 4 stroke and 2 stroke cylinder?
If you had a "thrown rod" your car wouldn't run for very long IF at all. The rod you are referring to is a connecting rod from the crank to the piston, this is part of a rotating assembly inside your engine, you are dealing with very small clearances and a small area and with a 6 1/2 inch rod bouncing around in there it will cause catastrophic damage...If the car still runs and drives Thrown rod isn't thrown as most of the time the rod punches a hole in the engine bl;ock or the oil pan...I would suggest you do not drive this car anywhere, have it towed or tow it...the problem is the tow bill and repair may be worth more than your car...which is in the area of about 2000 dollars if its in good shapeWhat is wrong with my Plymouth Voyager?
If you actually threw a rod, you probably won't make it anywhere near 100 miles. It could die any second. The confusing part is that you say that you can get it fixed relatively cheap. That is a major engine repair and is usually very expensive. Repairing it requires removing the engine and doing some major work. Usually you put in another engine. If your sure that's what it is, don't try to make that trip. You could get seriously hurt because I've seen rods go right through the hood.Nissian Maxima trouble code P0171 ? when a PUSH rod is bend You gonna hear a clicking noise in top of the engine,
remove and replace a bend PUSH ROD is one hour labor plus the part. never more than $100.00 US Dollars all together.
any mechanic in your area can do it
whatever the problem, if its making lots of noise its probably toast already so just drive it till it wont go no more and take a cell phone and phone number for a tow truck or get a membership to a local auto club
