First off, remove the rust with Fine Steel Wool (grade 00...buy it at a hardware store.) Then put some WD-40 on a soft cloth and rub it into the chrome. Keep the bike out of the rain, but when it does get wet, wipe it down again with the WD-40. Good luck!

Best thing I can recommend is to just do regular maintenance on her and keep it clean, there's all kinds of chrome polish out there that you can use, but keeping it clean is key. If you enjoy riding that much you'll love keeping it looking in top shape.
If you have some problem spots, try Never-dull, it's good stuff for getting at most of the difficult stuff and afgter that use some polishing compound (not rubbing compound, it's more abrasive and could ruin the finish) to help finish up the shine. if the bike has plastic panels (or fiberglass like covers) you can use Pledge furniture polish to keep it shining, ( Yes, I said Pledge, it works great for a quick shine) I'd reccomend that after you've done this a number of times, use simple-green to do a thorough cleaning on the entire bike with an extremely good rinsing to remove and wax buildup, and you can start all over again with the pledge. Best thing I have found is a product sold by General Motors. It is called "chrome polish and cleaner" once rust starts it is pretty difficult to stop it. I found there is a abrasive material in this cleaner that does a good job of removing surface rust and preventing it from reappearing. I do mine once a year and it has proved to be successful.
