I bought a 2002 civic in 04 and the alignment was always perfect, but now when i let go of the steering wheel it veers to the right slightly. How did this happen, did i hit a curb or something? Does it need to get fixed? Any long term effects?

yeah hitting a curb or running something over can knock out the alignment and yes its something you need to fix because if you leave it alone too long you risk uneven wear on your tires and could cause a blow out and/or would have to replace tires more often.

yes it does especially for the sake of your tires and cv joints. they will wear and tear sonner than they should if they alignments are bad. get it checked it may also affect suspention.Or you could have hit a pot-hole in the road. The tires can wear unevenly. It will not perform as well in hard turns or manuvers. Braking hard may pull it to one side. Hitting a curb can do this-it doesn't have to be at high speed to do it. You could also have worn front end parts or a strut problem. The next time you get an oil change, if a mechanic ( not one of those oil change places ) is doing it you might ask that he look over the front end of the car. That will rule out obvious problems. yeah alignment matters but if it only veers to the right a little bit that still could be natural because the street is arched and it should go to the right a little bit.
