I believe that alloys are a complete and utter waste of time, difficult to keep looking OK.
The need to have locking wheel nuts a real bind, (especially if you buy a used car and the seller has hidden or lost the key and
the tyres seem to lose pressure more easily, why do we bother with things that make life more difficult.

NO THEY ARE SO COOLI agree, and the tire dealers charge more to change tires on alloy wheels! One nick and they leak, a little corrosion and they are scrap.
Alloy wheels were supposed to be better because they were lighter. It reduced sprung weight on racing cars and helped reduce gas milage for everyone else. The money you saved on gas could be used to maintain them.
They were also easier to customise into different designs.
I would never have alloy wheels on a car I owned.
yes i agree and they are not checked right at m.o.t.. they should be non destructive tested by eddy current to check for internal cracks ( PRESSURE LOSS). also there is a corrosion problem with alloy

To look good you need to buy more expensive rubber which doesn't improve handling, ride or economy. As I said, a waste of time.

Dissadvanages of normal wheels are they people can steel you trims without any tools wat so ever, and to replace they froma dealer is a joke.. they will want nearly £200 just for poxy wheel trims

First of all, all you need to keep alloy wheels looking OK is to keep them clean, especially in the winter, as salt build up will cause them to corrode, the same applies to steel wheels, but they just rust away, instead the alloys start to pit!

They are great if you look after them. Keep away from kerbs and clean them regularly and they will look as good when you sell your car as when you bought them.
