My truck has been making a large creaking/clunking noise when the wheel is turned as far left as possible. I was told by mechanics the brake stop needs to be lube...does anybody know if i can do this myself?? Save me going to the shop to get it done.

The part that you mechanic is referring to is not a 'brake stop' but rather a 'wheel stop'. It is a metal block that prevents the wheels of the car from turning 360 degrees. the wheel stops are located on the lower control arms and usually look like the back side of a cupped hand. Some are blocks, some are triangles, most are rounded cups. Not all cars or trucks use them; GM used them extensively during the 1980's but I don't know if you truck has them. Anyway, if you do have them all you need to do is to smear wheel bearing grease on them. Its really a mess. Even though its not expensive to do it yourself, I'd recommend that you have the mechanic who told you that it needs to be lubricated do it for you. That way, if he or she is wrong you can ask the question "what else could it be". From your description, it sounds like a wheel stop issue and the grease should fix it.

you got to remove the disc brake calipers and remove the pads
where the pads sit on the spindle is small little pads get some dielectric gease from the auto parts store or ford dealership has under motorcraft product which is the best from what i haved used so just alittle on the pad tabs and clean off the dust first so that the gease sticks to the spindle area when putting the calipers back on grease the pins where the calipers slide on this is always over looked when brake jobs are done

I think your mechanic is wrong.. sounds to me as if that is C Joint problem. But I'm no mechanic.. just a back yard scrub.
