How to I make the engine produce less noise?

Question:
I have Mazda Astina 1992 model. Can the engine be tuned to produce less noise? What is that process called? Or do I need to install a device to absorb the sound waves?

clean out fuel injectors with higher octane fuel?

It probably has a solid lift head on it (more power). They are noisy.You can try adjusting the valve lash,thats were most of the noise comes from.If it had a hydraulic lifte head on it,it would be much quieter.

as far as intake noise, you can try retarding ignition timing under load, BUT that will also take the power down with it :)
