Where can i find the idle control valve on my Mark4 VW Golf?

Before you go and spend the money to change your alternator, check to see if the drive belt is too loose, worn or glazed. As you accelerate the belt is put under extra stress, and if it is not tight enough it will slip. The alternator will not spin fast enough and will temporarily light the warning lamp. Under less load the light goes out. It is not uncommon. Tightening or changing the belt is a whole lot cheaper than pulling the alternator out arbitrarily. With a few simple tools you should be able to take care of a belt problem yourself. Otherwise, go to a reputable mechanic and have your charging system checked. Should be inexpensive, and when in doubt, check it out. This is not to say you don't have brush problems, but start with the easiest problem first. Loose or slipping belts will cause the symptoms as you described them.

Bad brushes in the alternator or a bad regulator, if the headlights get over bright when you press the gas it's probably the regulator. I would take the alternator to a parts store and have it checked. Some alternators have the regulator built in.
Check the connections at the alternator.
