Question:
I have an older '83 Datsun 4 x truck that has always been a good reliable truck. Without warning all of a sudden it starts making a tapping noise, and in low gear it has little power. I have not driven it since, because I think it may be a rod ready to go, even though it has oil in it. Could it be a lifter or what? Once you get it in a higher gear it runs fine but still has that tapping noise.

You may have a spark plug that is loose, or not sealing in the cylinder correctly. I would check to make sure all plugs are tight and firmly set in place. Some times during spark plug replacement, the plugs are over-tightened and the threads inside the cylinder strips. If this is the case, you will need a heli-coil to correct the problem.if your oil pressure are okay, the engine valve lifters are bad. if you see dirt or debris when removing the valve lifters, flush the engine or else the lifters will goes bad again
