Question:
Back in the day, AAA had a garage you could take your car to, and for $100 or so they would spend time going over every nook and cranny to see what was wrong with the car - I did this a few times when cars I had would get close to the end of their warranty. Now, AAA does not have those garages anymore. Can anyone reccomend a company that provides this service? The nice thing about it was that since AAA didn't actually FIX anything, their opinions were fairly unbiased - So I want to avoide your typical auto-repair company for this. I am located in the St. Louis, MO area (Collinsville). Thanks

What are some symptoms of a bad torque converter?
(1) In our area (central NC), the Yellow Pages list a couple of diagnostic centers like you are talking about.Motor oil viscosity's? 10W40 , 20W50, straight 10 weight, 5Wtf?
(2) Personally I would take it to my trusted mechanic and ask for a pre-purchase evaluation. I appreciate that finding a really trustworthy mechanic can be a long and tedious process. Look for the names of all of the independent garages that work on your brand of car and then either (a) ask everyone you know for a recommendation from this list, (b) place a cheap ad in the campus paper or better yet on Craigslist.com for free and ask for people's experiences with the shops on your list, (c) ask other mechanics who do not work on your brand of car, or (d), worst case, go to an upscale shopping center or box store on a good day and spend 90 minutes in the parking lot asking people who drive your same brand car where they get their's worked on. Eventually the names of the top places will emerge.

It may sound stupid.. look for a used car lot that does there own repairs..pay them to evaluate your car..they have to do it to every thing they sell..they need to be able to stand behind what they sell and if they cant they wholesale it to another dealer..after there done I bet they ask you to come back so they can buy it when you decide to get a new oneMore Questions & Answers ...
