has a vw passat 20v turbo petrol v reg got a cam belt or a toothed belt?
OPERATION
When a sharp impact occurs, the ball breaks loose from the magnet, rolls up a conical ramp and strikes a target plate. This opens the electrical contacts of the switch and disrupts power to the electric fuel pump. The engine will quit running within a few seconds after the fuel pump looses power. The inertia switch must then be manually reset before the engine can be restarted.

fords have a fuel pump shut off switch. sometimes they get tripped by a power surge or if they get hit. They were designed to stop the fuel pump from working in the event of an accident.Look in your trunk under the left or right side panels.(behind the covers)on one or the other side you will see a black box about 3 inches by 3 inches in size (maybe a little bigger) on top will be a small push in button.Just push the button down and it should restart the fuel pump to normal operation.if its not in the trunk the only other place they put them was in the front under the kick panel (to the right of their feet behind plastic panel) by the passenger floor board
